Petsos Named SSC Specialist of the Week

(March 14, 2016) – Rollins men’s lacrosse senior faceoff specialist Petsos earned SSC Specialist of the Week following a .909 win percentage in two games of action, league officials announced, Monday. The Allen, Texas native won 12-of-14 faceoffs and amassed 12 ground balls in the Tars’ 21-3 victory over Lees-McRae that saw the program post new records in goals scored and points tallied in a game. Petsos then went a perfect 8-of-8 in the Tars’ hard fought 13-10 loss to No. 19 Belmont Abbey, where he added six ground balls against the Crusaders. Rollins is now 4-3 overall. Joining Petsos on the weekly Player of the Week board were Jake Gilmour of Saint Leo University, and Addison Abramson of Florida Tech. Gilmour earns SSC Offensive Player of the Week following his nine assists and five goal performance for the Lions this week. In a 13-8 win over Coker, Gilmour scored four goals and added one assist for a team-high five points. In a 22-2 win over Lees-McRae, Gilmour dished out a school record eight assists, seven of which came consecutively, and added a goal of his own for nine points in the game. After four straight wins, Saint Leo holds an overall record of 5-1. Abramson takes SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors after Florida Tech’s 2-1 record on the road this past week. The freshman picked a team-high five ground balls as the Panthers came from five down in the fourth quarter to beat Wheeling Jesuit in overtime 12-11 on Monday. Abramson then recorded two caused turnovers in the Panthers 11-7 loss to No. 4 Seton Hill on Wednesday. In the final game of the road trip, an 11-7 victory over Alderson Broaddus, Abramson collected three ground balls and three caused turnovers to help FIT improve to 5-2 on the season. The Rollins men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 16, when they host University of Indianapolis at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
