Pope vs Wellington Goes to OT – Pope Wins

Above – Senior Goalie Logan Masta had 25 saves for Wellington – Photo courtesy of Photos By Gene The game appeared to belong to Wellington when Patrick Oporto broke the 5-5 tie giving the Wolverines a 6-5 lead with only :31 remaining in the game. Pope gained possession and called time out with 12 seconds left and put in a last chance play.  Jake Boyer took a feed from Drew Minchew and miraculously scored to tie the game with .7 seconds left in regulation. During the overtime the teams battled with Drew Minchew coming up with the goal for the 7-6 win.  Minchew finished with 2 goals and 3 assists in the game. Pope and Wellington always bring excitement as many of the players have competed with each other on the Florida Elite and Swashbuckler Teams travel teams.   Mikey Urso, Graham Kramer, Chris Castellon, Jake Boyer & Patrick Brower each had 1 goal for Pope. For Wellington, Patrick Oporto had 3 goals and1 assist.  Jason D’Aoust (Saint Leo) 1 goal, 1 assist.   Michael Costello and Ryan Blum scored once each.  Allen Moye 8 gb’s and an assist.  Chris Englert 7 caused turnovers, and 10 gb’s. Bryce Dalton (Brevard) 6 caused turnovers Chad Moye 4 caused turnovers and Logan Masta 25  saves. Pope is now 9-3 on the season and will take a 3 game winning streak into a home match up against Pine Crest on Friday.  Wellington drops to 6-7 and will face an 0-6 John I. Leonard team tonight.
