B. Milne Field Tuesday.

Miller, a midfielder from Lancaster, Pa., had four goals including a first half hat trick to lead the way for JU (2-1). After his first half run, Miller scored two more early third period goals to get JU rolling and tied at 7. Junior Tom Moore and sophomore Chase McIntyre then got in on the fun and each scored three times in the second half as the Dolphins pulled away. “Yeah, that was one of the best games I’ve had here and definitely one of the most exciting,” Miller said. He said he didn’t see the big game coming. “No, I didn’t see it coming,” he said. “We were just playing great offense and I got a lot of opportunities and luckily I was cashing in on them. I think I scored on my first four shots and then, unfortunately, went on a little cold streak. I was feeling it in the beginning.” “He played under control and he played smart,” JU coach Guy Van Arsdale said of Miller. “He executed within what we do. He didn’t try to go beyond other than what came to him and when it came to him he took advantage.” Moore ended the game with four goals and two assists and McIntyre had his third hat trick in three games this season. Moore’s brother, Rob, had a goal and three assists and Conor Igoe and Chase Miller each had goals. Miller said the team felt a little flat in the first half but at halftime the group decided “we needed to smack them in the mouth first.” It worked. While the score-a-thon was taking place on the offensive end, the JU defense and goal keeper Bass Barfield kept the Wolverines (3-2) at bay giving up a single goal in the second half. “We had some decent intensity in the first half but didn’t think we were nearly playing to where we could be,” Barfield said. “We came out firing on all cylinders and the offense got those three quick goals and it was a team effort from there and we all killed it. When we were going down (in the first half) we all had each other’s backs and once everything starts going right we’re saying ‘here we go boys, we’ve got this’ and keep building on the momentum.” To start the game, the Dolphins scored 52 seconds into the game when Miller found the net for a 1-0 lead. Michigan responded with a pair of goals and Miller and Tom Moore both came through for a 3-2 lead with 6:10 to play in the first quarter. After the Wolverines scored a trio of times, Rob Moore had a man-up goal and Miller posted his hat trick with 5:18 go in the first half. Two more Michigan goals, one with five seconds on the clock, gave UM a 7-5 halftime lead. “Any time you beat a Big Ten school it’s a good thing,” Van Arsdale said. “To be honest, for us, every win is a great win and tonight is no different.” The Dolphins play host to 13th-ranked Marquette Friday at 7 p.m.
