JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s Dakota Rohlin recorded a hat trick Sunday despite his team’s 11-5 loss to Monmouth at D.B. Milne Field in the sixth annual Moe’s Southwest Grill Lacrosse Classic.
Monmouth (1-0) led 3-0, including two goals by Chris Daly, before Rohlin got Jacksonville (1-1) on the board with 1:51 left in the first quarter. After a John Castellano goal put the Hawks back in front by three midway through the second quarter, Rohlin again tickled the twine with aid from Eric Applegate a little more than two minutes later to cut the Dolphins’ deficit in half.
Each team traded goals before the break. Monmouth’s Bryce Wasserman scored his second goal of the day which was answered by an Aaron Jollow goal and Doran Graham assist, trimming Jacksonville’s deficit to two, 5-3, at intermission.
The Hawks scored three-straight times to open the third quarter and take a five-goal upper hand before a Shawn Ewert to Cody Ford connection cut the margin in half at the 2:39 mark of the frame.
Jacksonville closed within four at 9-5 with 4:02 remaining in the game on Rohlin’s third goal, but two Hawk scores in the final 1:47 pushed the final difference to six.
Daly finished with a hat trick. Wasserman and Castellano each had two goals.
Goalkeeper Nick Hreshko (1-0) made eight saves for Monmouth.
Netminder Ben Gleichenhaus (1-1) had 11 stops for the Dolphins.
Jacksonville won 11-of-20 faceoffs in the game.
The Dolphins travel to Saint John’s on Thursday, Feb. 18. The contest is set to start at 3 p.m. ET.
