No Love Lost As No.8 Spartans Trounce Pioneers

From Press Release TAMPA, Fla. – The No.8 Tampa Spartans men’s lacrosse team took on the Tusculum Pioneers Sunday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex, and emerged victorious by a score of 17-9. Offensively, Tampa looked to provide a balanced approach looking to get multiple players involved early on, which paid off exponentially as seven different Spartans notched goals on the day. Leading the charge was Conor Whipple and  Andrew Kew, who netted five goals apiece. Whipple went on to add four assists to his final stat line. Also contributing big on the offensive end was Mike Morris and Jud Huxtable with two goals each. Other Spartan goal scorers included Matt Vetter, Sam Murphy, and Sean Herdman, who notched three goals total on the day. Defensively, UT outworked TC in all areas, hauling in 37 groundballs and finished the day with four caused turnovers. Tampa, also won the battle in faceoffs, thanks to Noah Menendez and Alex Patton, who combined for 19 wins in the faceoff X. The Spartans went with a rotation of netminders for their opening match, but earning the win in net for Tampa was Rutgers University transfer T.J. Greenhill, who hauled in three saves on eight shots in just 24 minutes of play. Following the victory UT advances to 1-0 on the season. Tampa Returns to action Friday, as they square off withAdelphi University at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex, game time is set for 7 P.M.
