Rollins’ Malorie Olin Named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. (February 29, 2016) – After helping the Rollins women’s lacrosse team to two victories this past weekend, sophomore goalie Malorie Olin has been named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending February 28, conference officials announced, Monday. The honor marks the second of the season for the Skaneateles, N.Y. native.
Olin helped the sixth-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team win two straight over the weekend to advance their overall record to 3-0 on the season. She faced a total of 13 shots all weekend, making seven saves to earn a save percentage of .583 over the course of two games. Olin added four ground balls and two caused turnovers to her stat total as the Tars bookended the weekend with 14-3 victories over St. Thomas Aquinas and Georgian Court.
Joining Olin is junior attacker Kendall Kerge from Florida Southern, who earned Offensive Player of the week honors. Kerge scored a career-high seven goals in Florida Southern’s 16-10 home loss to No. 1 ranked Adelphi. In the loss to Adelphi, Kerge scored four of her goals in the first half and then added three goals in the second. She also finished the game with nine shots and was 2-for-2 on free position shots and had one groundball and one caused turnover. The Moccasins are 0-2 on the season with both losses coming against Top-15 opponents.
The Rollins women’s lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 5, when they host ninth-ranked Stonehill College at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall Sandspur Field.
