Ty Thomas Breaks Second Program Record in As Many Games as She Becomes All-Time Leader in Points Scored From Rollinsports.com WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2016) – Senior attacker Tyler Thomas broke her second Rollins women’s lacrosse program record in as many games as she became the all-time leader in points scored on Friday evening at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field. The sixth-ranked Tars rolled to a 17-6 victory over Slippery Rock University and stay unbeaten with an overall record of 6-0, while The Rock drops to a record of 2-1 on their young season. Ty Thomas netted a game high six goals en route to the Tars’ sixth-straight victory, eclipsing former points leader Erica Pagliarulo as she advanced her career total to 196 on a converted free position shot with 23:39 on the clock in the second half. Thomas, who has accumulated 169 career goals, and has tacked on 27 career assists after Friday’s game, also broke the overall program record for goals scored in a career in the Tars game against Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday, as she amassed a total of 163, marking the second-straight game she has set new program records. Joining Thomas on the scoreboard were Kris Coppolino and Kallie German with a hat trick apiece, while Brittany Eveler scored twice. Paige Brock, Emily Eddowes, and Claire Block each scored one goal. P. Brock dished out a game best three assists, while Eveler added two of her own. Coppolino and Eddowes earned one assist each. On the draw, Madison Hendren led the team with three draw controls won. Defensively, Lindsay Van Beck caused three turnovers to lead the team, while Malorie Olin and Van Beck each grabbed a team best three ground balls. In goal, Olin allowed six goals while earning seven saves on the night as she faced 18 shots and 13 shots on frame. Slippery Rock was led in scoring by Caitlynn Palladino, who scored two goals on the night. In goal for The Rock, Jordan Wagner earned a game high seven ground balls while allowing 17 goals and earning 15 saves. In total, Wagner faced 43 shots and 32 shots on goal from the Tars. Rollins opened up to a seven goal lead, including three goals by Ty Thomas, in the first 15 minutes of play, but Slippery Rock found the back of the net at the 14:56 mark to get themselves on the scoreboard with a score of 7-1 thanks to a goal by Jasey Sanders. Rollins outscored The Rock 5-3 to close out the remainder of the first half, entering into the break with a score of 12-4. The Tars continued to make easy work of their opponent throughout the remainder of the contest, outscoring Slippery Rock 5-2 in the final 30 minutes of action to close out the game with a final score of 17-6. Rollins dominated the shot count, 43-18, as well we the overall tally for shots on goal 32-13. The Tars led the game in ground balls, 21-15, as well as draw controls, 13-11. Rollins was successful on 18-of-20 clear attempts, while Slippery Rock was successful on 13-of-21 attempts. It was a slow paced game as a total of 51 fouls were called on Slippery Rock, and 33 fouls were called on the Tars throughout the contest. The Tars return to action on Thursday, March 17, when they travel to Hickory, N.C. to play Lenior-Rhyne.
