Tampa Tumbles in Friday Matchup with IUP

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team concluded its slate of Spring Break competitions with an afternoon loss to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
The Crimson Hawks defeated Tampa by a 12-5 final score to improve to 2-2 on the season while the hosting Spartans fall to 1-7 on the year.
Freshman Caroline Forester led the offense for UT, scoring a pair of goals. Sophomores Natalie Carraway and Madison Ewing each tallied a goal while freshman Allie Popelar netted the final score for Tampa on the day.
Freshman Abby Coccagna held the defensive tempo with five groundballs and three each in draw controls and caused turnovers. Defender Emily Stevenson and midfielder Popelar each added three groundballs while the latter tied with Coccagna for a game-high three draw victories.
Senior Caili Guilday (1-7) played the complete-game in goal for UT, recording eight saves against 12 goals allowed. Opposite Guilday was IUP netminder Angela Lontoc (2-2) who allowed five goals and notched 10 saves for the Crimson Hawks.
IUP attacker Adriana Greco recorded a hat-trick, scoring three goals to lead both squads on offense. Fellow attacker Amy Weinberg picked up an astounding five assists, setting up multiple scores for the visiting team.
