Addison Lutes and Harris Feldman led the Saint Andrew’s Scots to a 13-7 victory over Oxbridge in their first meeting. Lutes tallied three goals and an assist and Feldman recorded thirteen stops for a .684 save percentage. The Scots, who started the season with a humbling loss at Douglas, played a much sounder fundamental game this time. The offense was more patient, taking better shots and the defense was more aggressive and disciplined, as reflected by the Scots’ 37 ground balls.
The Thunderwolves, with Florida Launch Stan Ross at the helm, is one of the schools we all know will be in the mix for a state title for years to come. However, this young team, which featured only two seniors, is still a year away from making a run the Final Four.

There were many bright spots on both sides of the field. Oxbridge goalie Ethan Randell recorded 14 saves and considering the improved quality of the SA shots mentioned above, he had a terrific game. Sophomore and North Carolina commit Brandon Hayek showed why the Tar Heels made him an offer. Zach Ranta dodged well in traffic and tallied a hat trick and an assist. Robert Bayless had two and one.
However, this was the Scots’ night, a night to improve and get better. Attackmen Sam Baker, Peter Dykas and Lutes tallied seven goals and three assists as a group, highlighting a difference from last year’s midfield focused offense.
A final note on the state of Florida’s lacrosse – everyone is getting better, and fast. Watching Atlantic’s first year squad, we could see a lot of quality play by both Wellington and the Eagles. No, neither of those teams will make the run to the state finals this year, but give them time. And, if you are a fan, check out any local game. You’ll be impressed.
