NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team opened up the 2017 season with a commanding 21-2 win over Newberry College, setting a new Saint Leo record for goals scored in a single game on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions led 11-1 at the half and only allowed the Wolves to tally one goal in the second half as well while scoring ten more of their own.
Saint Leo crushed their previous point record of 27, set back in 2014, as the Lions added 12 assists to their 21 goals for 33 points. The 12 assists also break a single-game record, which was previously set in 2012 with nine.

Freshman Lexie Walstad added six points with a team-high four goals and adding two assists. Fellow freshman Sabrina Sanacore tallied three goals, while junior Abbie Ross added two points with one goal and two assists.
