SPARTANBURG, S.C.– The University of Tampa Spartans women’s lacrosse team earned their first win of the season against the Converse College Valkyries.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half
- Freshman Claire Swanson opened up the scoring with the first goal for the Spartans less than 30 seconds into the game.
- Converse answered back shortly to tie the game 1-1.
- Allie Popelar made the score 2-1 at 25:06.
- Maggie Gladden scored at 24:18.
- Popelar struck again to increase the lead to 4-1 over Converse.
- Converse made the score 4-2 at 14:18.
- Yet Natalie Carraway struck with 12:13 on the clock to make it 5-3.
- Converse had their third goal of the game at 7:15.
- Amanda Rom had her first goal of the game to make it 6-3 with 6:44 on the board.
- Gladden fired again to increase the Spartans lead to 7-3.
- Swanson tacked on another goal at 4:44.
- Gladden followed her to make it 9-3.
- Amanda Voges scored her first goal of the game at 1:22, increasing the score to 10-3.
- She struck again and was assisted by Rom.
- With one second left, Rom was assisted by Cali Edgar to end the half with Tampa leading 12-3.
- Gladden was assited by Carraway to start the half.
- To jump ahead more, Tampa made it 14-3 with a goal from Caroline Forester.
- A solo goal from Carrraway made it 15-3
- Converse came back with two goals to make it 15-5.
- Swanson fired back to back goal to make it 17-5 with 16:11 left on the clock.
- At 9:52, the score jumped to 19-5 with two goals from Shannon Sweeny, one assisted by Rachel Crawford.
- Carly Vaccaro increased the lead to 20-5 at 4:54.
- Tampa ended the game with a goal at 2:41 to make the final score 21-5. Vaccaro was assisted by Megan Sengelmann for the final goal.
- Swanson had four goals, one assist, and five ground balls.
- Gladden had four goals and five ground balls.
- Voges had two goals and three ground balls.
- Rom had two goals, nine groundballs, and two caused turnovers.
- Vaccaro had two goals and one ground ball.
- Sweeny had two goals and three ground balls.
- Popelar had two goals, one assist, and three groundballs.
- Carraway had two goals, one assist, and two groundballs.
- Forrester had one goal and three ground balls.
- Mackenzie Hackett had two saves.
- Senior Voges is approaching 100 career goals this season with 95 so far. The Bayshore, N.Y. native will be the first Spartan in program history to reach this milestone.
