Sawicki Shines in Dick’s Sporting Goods T.O.C. Final

Sweetlax took away the Championship Trophy in the 2013 Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions as they proved to be the best club team in the nation.  But Adam Sawicki delivered one heck of a performance in the loss for the Road Warriors. The Road Warriors went up 2-0 early in the game as Sawicki made two great saves in the opening minutes of the game.  Sweetlax made the most of a couple of early EMO opportunities and with eleven minutes left in the first half they tied the game at two each.  The Road Warriors tenacious fast wing play on the face offs made things difficult for Lake Highland’s Face Off Specialist Max Parker  He struggled early in the game but on his fourth chance he won the face off and brought the ball down into the box, Sweetlax possessed and scored their third straight to take the lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. The Road Warriors had some serious match up issues with Sweetlax’s Jake Fox and Troy Lauder.  They both seemed to be either wide open on the post or ripping shots from nine yards out with hands free and Sweetlax made it 5-2. Big Blake Curry was finally able to stop the five goal run by Sweetlax as he scored back to back goals for the Road Warriors but 5-4 was as close as they would come, Sweetlax just had too many weapons. Sweetlax would end up pulling away and win 12-7.  We had Sawicki, unofficially, with 13 saves.  At least half of which were amazing.  He gave up twelve good goals, none of them soft.  Seminole High School’s Josh Williamson also played very well in the defeat picking up five ground balls and doing some solid work on the wings during face offs.  He also showed good versatility playing close D as well as LSM. Tampa native and current IMG player, Jonathan Thelen was hampered by injury in the Championship game but performed well for The Road Warriors throughout the tournament. Tim Gehlbach played a bunch of minutes for Sweetlax, scoring once and did a nice job controlling the ball.  Gehlbach was solid, using his good size to his advantage  as Sweetlax controlled the ball against some intense pressure from the Road Warriors in the closing minutes of the game.  We had Max Parker just over 50% at the X  against a very deep stable of Face Off guys from the Road Warriors.  He started off rough but made good adjustments and controlled the ball well and did not turn the ball over.
