Season 2! Doug Shanahan’s St. Brendan’s – Week 4 of the Season

FLN has asked new Head Coach Doug Shanahan of St. Brendan High School in Miami to continue to share his thoughts on how he is building his new program through what is now their second season and Doug has graciously agreed to do so. Here is his latest submission! We thank Doug for taking the time to do this and letting our readers experience this unique insight.
With the first week of games already decided, we are happy to report that we are .500 for the first time in our team’s short history, 1-1! Yes, it is early but it is a building block. In an area where lacrosse is not a traditional sport, every small step is important.
This week we traveled to Ransom Everglades, a well coached team by Roy Kelly, and our first ever District 30 game. To keep it simple, we are just not at that level yet. However, our boys fought hard from whistle to whistle and that is a win in my book.
On Saturday Palmetto Ridge traveled the long distance to St. Brendan all the way from Naples. We were happy to get off to an early lead and keep it throughout the game. Coach Ron Miller and his staff are doing great things with their team and I am looking forward to facing them again when we travel late in the season to Palmetto Ridge.
The team is growing each and everyday. This week we have Belen, another District 30 matchup. Although this has the potential to be a tough game, I often tell our team there is a reason games are played on the field and not on paper.
Go Sabres!
