Undefeated Bishop Moore (4-0) traveled to emerging (4-1) Seminole for a rematch of a wild game from last year. Each team was looking to make a statement and the high intensity action proved that they were both ready for the challenge.
Bishop Moore jumped out to a 1-0 lead mid-way through the 1st quarter, but Seminole scored 4 unanswered goals by their attack to take a 1st quarter 4-1 lead. The teams traded goals in the 2nd quarter to make the halftime score 6-3 Seminole and set up an exciting 2nd half.
The third quarter was fast and furious, with 9 goals being scored, 5 by Seminole and 4 by Bishop Moore. Seminoles’ Ryan Ormerod (Wingate) scored 2 of his eventual 7 goals and Bennett Osterink completed his Hat Trick with 2 goals as well. Bishop Moore’s Matt Mottern had 1 of his 3 goals and Evan Kachris (Holy Cross) added his 2nd goal. The third quarter ended with Seminole up 11-7 and the back and forth tilt looked to continue.
But Seminole’s defense lead by Senior d-poles Kolby Martinelli and Gage Krull, and Sophomore goalie Ben Roth ( 8 saves) slowed down the Hornets attack and turned over the game to their attack to put the game away. Ryan Ormerod, Payton Rivers ( 3 goals & 4 assists,) and LSM Josh Williamson (Mercer) all added tallys in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach and give Seminole a hard fought 16-9 victory.
Seminole (5-1) travels to cross town rival, and undefeated, Lake Mary for a District match-up on Saturday, Feb. 28th. While Bishop Moore looks to get back to their winning way when they visit one lose Lake Brantley on Friday, Feb. 27th.
