Senior Writer Lee R. At The US Lacrosse Convention!

This is a blast! Writing this before I head over to the Hilton for the college Draft, which we will be covering live for you. If you are a lacrosse fan this is Disney World! Every imaginable piece of equipment, many of the top names in the sport and lots of camaraderie! All in one location. But before I go further, as is my calling at times, how many of you saw this on Yahoo? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/small-school-standout-ali-marpet-putting-tiny-hobart-college-on-nfl-radars-004839486.html?bcmt=1421890727987-9f08ff97-058e-48ef-94a8-093d35764438 Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming . . . Ran into a number of local lax bigwigs: Flew up on the plane with Mark Parets, the FIU head coach and long time South Florida coach.  Had a nice talk about the lacrosse world in general. Then ran into Stan Ross at the Exhibition Hall and then Dan Loftus, and we talked about his team. Also ran into Bob Clancey, who surprised me last weekend with a really nice gift of an ‘Eldest Statesmen’ jersey!  Thanks so much for that Bob.  He is going to introduce me tomorrow to legendary Cornell Head Coach Richie Moran, who I haven’t seen in person since 1979 . . . Bob insists he will remember me but I did say that the viewing was from a distance so that wasn’t likely.  Hopefully i’ll be able to get an interview out of him . . . and finally solve the long-standing issue of ‘the fish’. Stay tuned for details on that. My brother will be driving down from NJ tomorrow to meet up with me and my niece, Amy, who has moved to Baltimore as part of the Teach For America program in this city after graduating from Ann Arbor last year.  I’ve promised her a season ticket to Hopkins games and she has graciously accepted the invaluable gift.  Dinner will be at Sammy’s Trattoria, home of the JHU lacrosse program, courtesy of Barron Collier Head Coach Trent Carter, who smoothed the reservation on what would normally be a tough to get reservation. Thanks Trent! At one of the booths I ran into John Kaestner, who was a college teammate and close friend of Saint Andrew’s alum Lee Coppersmith.  After graduating JHU Lee has embedded himself at Goldman Sachs, where he works from 12:01am to 10:45pm every day, Monday to Friday, with an extra hour off on Saturdays and Sundays (probably to shower and shave).  Lee was picked up by the NY Lizards in the  MLL Supplemental Draft a few weeks back. Well, time to get ready for the MLL Draft!  Remember, the Launch draft #1 and #2 overall . . . fireworks!
