Alonso Ravens hosted the Sickles Gryphons in a district 16 matchup Thursday night. The Gryphons came into the game with a 5-1 record looking to beat Alonso for the first time.
Sickles started the game fast with 5 goals in the 1st quarter, then the Alonso defense stiffened and only allowed 1 goal per quarter for the rest of the game. However, Alonso had a tough time scoring against the Gryphons goalkeeper who had his first career shutout on 7 saves. The game got a little testy in the 3rd period when these rivals combined for 7 personal fouls and 9 minutes in penalties and added 4 for 4 in the 4th.
With the win, Sickles improves to 6-1 and 2-1 in District 16, while Alonso drops to 1-4 and 0-2. However, Sickles is moving into the meat of their schedule with Wharton and Steinbrenner as their next two games while Alonso travels to Robinson on Friday night.
