[album: http://insidefloridalacrosse.com/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/dm-albums.php?currdir=/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/UMASS day 1/] The Swashbucklers may have started out a little slow,  dropping their first game to “Super Stars” from West Chester, NY.  But they picked up the pace in games two and three scoring 19 goals in two games to finish the day 2-1. Brendan Walker got things started for the Swash with a nice goal and then he fed Daniel Soviero for another.  Ben Yetman scored one on transition and Harris Stolzenberg scored the final Swash goal of the game on a beautiful transition goal that started with a great outlet pass by goalie “Fuzzy” Martin to Greg Swanson who found Ben who finished well.  The South Florida team then faced a pair of teams fielded by the New England Select Lacrosse League.  The found their stride against the NESLL “Black” team winning the game 11-3.  Greg Swanson accounted for three of those scores and including a back breaker to open the second half, letting New England know that the Swash had no intentions of slowing down. Miles Braun scored two and had an assist and the rest of the goals were spread around with 6 other players scoring goals.   The final game of the day matched the Swashbucklers against the NESLL  “blue” team and the Swash came out on top 8-4.  Miles Braun scored two more in the final game and Greg Swanson scored twice and had an assist.  Brendon Walker, Ben Yetman, and Connor Cecil also scored for the swash. Dylan Davis, Kevin Meyer, and Connor Cecil combined to absolutely dominate the face-offs to give the Swashbucklers plenty of extra possessions.  Fuzzy Martin and Ryan Powers were both solid between the pipes and able to start the transition game with some great outlet passes.  Defensively the Swashbucklers just stifled both of the NESLL teams today.  Kyle Dingle, Connor Toomey, and Sam Lewend all had too many forced turnovers to count and moved the ball down the field well.  The Swashbucklers U17 team also played well today with Ben Kennedy going about 80% at the Face Off X and Tommy Dunn played some great defense.  Nicky Schultz was doing plenty of scoring to keep the U17 Swash team playing well.  They won two and tied one today. There are plenty of college coaches in attendance watching the games.  Florida Southern’s own Marty Ward (Deep South Conference Coach of the Year) was spotted on the sidelines at the Swashbucklers vs. NESLL black game.
