Junior Nick Iznaga (above) tallied 6 goals and 1 assist to lead all scorers as St. Andrew’s opened with a nice victory over a much improved American Heritage team.
For the Scots, Davis Diamond had 4 assists, Nick Diamond had 2 goals and 1 assist, Mark Heatzig had 1 goal and 2 assists, Carl Klepper had 2 goals and Peter Dykas had 3 assists.
Ably filling the shoes of graduated Scots All-American Alex Newhouse, eigth grader Gable Braun won 14 of 16 face offs and tossed in a goal. Goalie Nick Ferraro registered 10 saves for the win. Defensively, Tristan Cade had 4 takeaways and 3 GB while Jackson Kennedy had 2 takeaways and 5 GB.
For the Stallions, senior defensemen Parker Sargeant (3 caused turnovers) and Nick Updike (4 caused turnovers) were all over the field wreaking havoc and made the Scots work hard for their goals. Credit also goes to goalies Nunzio Amante (7 saves) and Justin Lugo (5 saves).
We were impressed with the midfield play of sophomores Dante Moore (2 goals), Colin Scypek (1 goal) and junior Nick Lounsbury (1 goal). Freshman attackman Adam Stiefel chipped in with two assists, so the future looks very promising for this offense.
The Scots head to the west coast this weekend for very tough back to back games against Barron Collier on Friday and IMG on Saturday. Lacrosse fans in the area will certainly enjoy those contests.
The Stallions host Columbus Catholic Saturday at 5:00 in what will also be a quality game. Come out and support these teams!
