Miles Silva is an equal-opportunity sniper.
Whether he’s on the right or the left, in a pick-and-roll situation or snapping off a long-distance shot, the Ponte Vedra junior found ways to score from just about every angle imaginable in 2014. His goal-scoring exploits made him the consensus and relatively easy choice as The Record’s 2014 boys lacrosse Player of the Year.
The junior attacker may have scored 62 goals to lead the county and help the Sharks advance to the state tournament for a fourth straight year, but he is quick to deflect the attention to his uber-talented team.
“Cody (Legeza) had 30-something assists, Garrett (Boyle) had 20-plus, and the same thing with Eric (Applegate), Logan (Tauscher) and RJ (Garcia),” Silva said. “With those guys being as good as they are and feeding me the ball and me being able to do what I do in the middle and score, it’s a team thing.”
On a blisteringly hot afternoon at Ponte Vedra High School the 6-foot-4 Silva compared himself to a post player in basketball.
His point was that without his teammates getting him the ball in good positions he would not nearly have been as effective.
