St. Brendan Gets First Road Win Over Plantation 15-14

thanks to Coach Shanahan for this submission . . . a good way for him to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
What a great St Patrick’s Day gift we were able to receive, better yet earn, yesterday at Plantation High School! The game itself was penalty riddled, physical, and full of ejections, yet we overcame a 9-2 deficit. How we did we do it? We were able to keep our composure through the game for the most part. We battled back and were even up 2 goals with 2 minutes to go! Then the game nearly went to overtime as one of my close defenseman Ozzy Rodriguez made an empty net save as time expired to end the game.
I was proud of the boys yesterday, it was the first time they showed true grit. Plantation played us very physical, very! Our boys responded with some physical play of their own. It was good to see heart on the field, the team competed like every play mattered. I am hoping yesterday was a turning point in St Brendan’s evolution of understanding of this great game. Our leading scorer again was Carlos Clavijo who tallied 11 goals, which at any level of lacrosse is unbelievable. Reminded me of when Harris Stolzenberg scored 13 goals a few years back. Carlos scored the majority of his goals on man-up, as over half the game’s time was either man-up or man-down!
Looking forward, we have several games for the remainder of this week. Keeping the kids healthy and mentally prepared will be the coaches’ challenge, especially with a long trip to Key West on Thursday the 19th of March.
Go Sabres!
St. Brendan returns to action today, hosting Riviera Prep and Plantation travels to district foe South Plantation in two weeks.
