TAMPA, Fla. – Beginning a stretch of five home contests in a nine day span, the University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team is set to welcome the University of Findlay for a Thursday night matchup at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex at 7:30 p.m.
The Spartans enter the game in search of their first victory as they have faced a stretch of tough opponents including a pair of nationally ranked foes. UT is 0-3 to start the season, opening at home against then-No. 6 Rollins. Tampa fell to the Tars by a 13-6 final, the lowest scoring margin since the team’s inception in 2014.
UT then hit the road to battle Belmont Abbey and No. 16 Queens (N.C.), dropping both contests by a 10-5 and 15-4 margin, respectively.
Sophomore Amanda Rom and junior Amanda Voges lead the Tampa offense as both have found the net on four occasions while assisting a teammate’s score once apiece. Freshman Allie Popelar leads the midfield with seven draw controls and two goals scored.
Senior Amanda Parker and freshman Liz Kramer have anchored the Spartan defense, as the duo has combined for seven caused turnovers in the three contests this season. Netminder Caili Guilday has been stalwart in the goal, notching a 47.2 save percentage with 34 saves while also adding nine groundballs to lead the team.
The Oilers are coming off their first victory of the season, a close 12-11 win over Georgian Court. Junior Kyra Bradley leads Findlay on offense, as the attacker has 12 goals and a lone assist through three games. Midfielder Hannah Peebles leads the defense with six draw controls, five caused turnovers and three groundballs. The freshman has a pair of goals and two assists on offense as the Oilers most versatile athlete.
The meeting marks the first between the two teams. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com as well as the new UT Spartans Front Row app, available on both the Apple App Store and through Google Play.
