In an effort to improve the impressive track record of high level success of their out of state travel teams Team Florida is adding Gary Robinson to their management staff. Team Florida pioneered the Florida effort to showcase top state players to college coaches through their annual Recruiting Showcase and participation in the three national recruiting tournaments held up North each year. Team FloridaâÂÂs vast network with college coaches allows for players to get on the radar and be seen at each of the high level events the club attends.ÃÂ
Robinson is the co-founder of Iron Man Lacrosse andàOrlandoLacrosse.comàwhich operates the Orlando Lacrosse Open and Summer Face Off Tournaments. In addition, he is the co-founder of the Lacrosse Club Orlando (LCO) and founder of the Florida National Lacrosse all state travel program. Robinson will oversee the communication and preparation process for all Team Florida families and will assist in the areas of operations and quality control. Tom West, the co-founder of Team Florida with Jeff Goldberg remarks, âÂÂThis merger makes Florida Lacrosse even stronger. We started Team Florida 10 years ago with the goal of providing college opportunities and first class coaching for all the SouthâÂÂs lacrosse players. Gary is one of FloridaâÂÂs best coaches and itâÂÂs a win-win for Florida Lacrosse.”
Robinson is a native of Westminster, Maryland and played collegiately at Gettysburg College where he holds the career records for save in a game, season, and career. He holds a BA in Business Administration and a Masters in Sports Administration and has served as a private school athletic director, teacher, and coach for over twenty-five years. He started his career at the Palmer Trinity School where he started the lacrosse program and five years later won the state championship. He is the former head coach at Gulliver Prep from 2004 through 2009 where his teams were consistently ranked in the top three of the state and won several regional championships. Currently he is entering his fourth year as head coach at Lake Mary High School where the team won its first ever Seminole County Championship in school history this past 2014 season and finished ranked #10 in the state as published by Florida Lacrosse News.
This move by Team Florida illustrates a healthy trend in Florida Lacrosse where once competing factions are finding ways to work with each other to ultimately benefit the student-athletes they serve. Robinson and Jeff Goldberg were once fierce rivals during their days at Gulliver Prep and St. Andrews respectively. Concurrently, Robinson and West have had a similar relationship leading into the present. Robinson states, âÂÂJeff and I have had a classic competitorâÂÂs rivalry both as high school coaches and club operators. During this process we have developed a healthy respect for each other. If you want to know the true value that Coach Goldberg brings to the table for players seeking college opportunities talk to almost any college coach at a national recruiting tournament and he is unquestionably viewed as one of the top developers of talent in the country. I look forward to combining the strengths that Coach Goldberg, Tom West, Coach Spaulding at Lake Highland Prep, and I have developed to improve the already effective Team Florida model.âÂÂ
Robinson will assume duties starting October 1 for Team Florida. Florida National Lacrosse,www.floridanationallacrosse.com, will focus on youth travel teams that will travel out of state and work in tandem with Team Florida to prepare players for the Team Florida system at the high school level.ÃÂ
