Thanks EBAY! – Unlocking A Unique Past Event!
Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in Uncategorized.
For some reason, as I was adding to my Topps 1955 All American Football card collection, and a few cheaper 1933 Goudeys Sports Kings I decided to see what would pop up if I searched Lacrosse. A few nice items showed up including a reprint of a vintage Johns Hopkins lacrosse poster, circa around 1910, which looked like it would make a nice addition to my office wall . . . another use of last paycheck. But a little further down the list came a rare thunderbolt. And a little piece of local history to research.
How many of our readers (since NONE of our writers, including me) knew that in the 1950’s a local event was held as an exhibition game featuring some of the best college players in the country? In West Palm Beach. At something called Cooley Stadium.
Before we go a little further . . .
Yes, I bought the item. Thirty dollars very well spent . . . free shipping too! I’ve emailed the seller to see if they or their family was involved in the games to see if they could give me insight. If they can I will likely do another post on this. Any other readers out there who have knowledge of the Coconut Bowl (yes, that is the name of the event!!) please email me here at lee@floridlacroseenews.com.
Anyhow, this is the screen print of the purchased item through Ebay: (click on it to expand)
A pretty extraordinary find. So I tried the old Google research and looked for SOMETHING on the Coconut Bowl and a few things did pop up.
