Timber Creek Cuts Down Oviedo 13-5

Timber Creek played host to a visiting Oviedo team on a chilly Monday evening in Orlando. The Wolves beat Oviedo for the first time since 2009 13-5. Nate Gillan once again led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. However the scoring was spread evenly across the TCHS starting roster.  Delaney Way led Oviedo with 2 goals. The Timber Creek face-off combination of Sean Johnson (2G, 1A) and Andrew Pineda (1G, 1A) went 14/18 and allowed the speed of the their starting attack of Nate Gillan (4G,2A), Preston Hopkins (3G) and EJ Wheeler (3G) to frustrate the defense of Oviedo throughout the entire game. This despite some very nice goal keeping by the Ovideo goal keeper. The starting 3 attack for Timber Creek are plenty talented, with a high lacrosse IQ that allows them to adapt to whatever the opponent decides to throw at them. The speed of the Timber Creek transition game of Sean Johnson (2G,1A), Jake Sousa (4A) and Trey Grenga (1A) is tough to defend and when its working tough to overcome for most teams. Timber Creek’s defense led by seniors Brandon Brinkmeier, Tyler Gunning, Evan Walker and junior Braden Cassata played a strong, physical game that complemented goal keeper Hunter Lopers 11 saves. There were a number of instances where Loper made multiple saves on the same possession to thwart any offense that Oviedo could find. The physicality of the Timber Creek defense was just too much for the Oviedo offense to overcome. Timber Creek coach Trey Gordon used the later stages of the game to get his very young roster some field time, as this will serve them well down the stretch as they get into their district schedule. Timber Creek hosts University on Friday evening in their first district game of this young 2016 season, before going on the road to play a tough West Orange squad next week.
