Timber Creek Runs Away From Freedom

By Tom Hopkins Timber Creek moved to 6-2 for the season with a win over visiting Freedom HS. The outcome was never in question, as Timber Creek went deep into their bench for their scores after the first 6 minutes of the game. Timber Creek’s face off combination of Sean Johnson and Sean Gillick failed to control just one face off all evening and this made for a long night for the overmatched defense of Freedom. Timber Creek’s starting attack of Nate Gillan (3 G, 1A), Preston Hopkins (3G, 1A) and EJ Wheeler (1G, 1A) put the Wolves up 10-1 at the end of the first and never saw the field beyond the 6 minute mark of the first. From there the youngsters took over. Ethan Caskey (3G, 1A), Jeremy Quinan (3G) and Dylan Mace (2G, 2A) put this one out of reach quickly. The defense of Brett Fazio, Adam Jackson and Nick D’Angelo turned back every effort the Patriots put forward for the rest of the game. This added playing time will only help the young roster, as they gain valuable playing time for a very ambitious schedule that Timber Creek faces as March gets rolling. Timber Creek has the rest of the week to practice and rest before a big week next week. The Wolves travel to Winter Springs Monday and then to a huge game against their district rivals Boone Wednesday next week, before closing the week out at East River. The end of March looms large for a Timber Creek squad that seems to get very little respect in the lacrosse community in the state. The last 3 weeks of the season, Timber Creek faces arguably one of the toughest stretches in the state with a strong Lake Brantley squad, always strong Seminole program, perennial power Lake Highland, up and coming Bucholz and always formidable Ponte Vedra. It will be a good test for this group, as they continue to grow their program. They are learning that respect is not given but earned.
