Boca Raton, FL, October 29, 2015– Earlier this month, a devastating fire destroyed Creative Critters, the only daycare center in the small town of West Point, VA. Word quickly spread online about the tragedy and eventually made its way down to the head coach of Upstate Lacrosse of Boca Raton, Michael Skonieczki. “Every year, I encourage our girls to get involved in the community and contribute to an important cause. When I heard about what happened to Creative Critters, I knew we had to help.” Skonieczki reached out to the owners of Creative Critters, Kathy and Curt Gray. Fortunately, a local church in West Point had agreed to allow Creative Critters to operate out of their facility, however the daycare still needed all of their materials – educational supplies, toys, computers, books, cups, puzzles, you name it. upstate logo Coach Skonieczki reached out to the families of both his teams, Upstate Lacrosse Girls High School Team and Upstate Lacrosse Girls Middle School Team. Within a week, Skonieczki had received hundreds of dollars in donations along with boxes of toys, crayons, paper, craft supplies, puzzles and books. With the monetary donations, Upstate Lacrosse was able to purchase tablets, a laptop, infant supplies and school supplies to name a few. ABCMouse.com, an online-based curriculum for young children, donated free memberships, 100 books and 4 rugs. In all, Upstate Lacrosse sent 5 boxes weighing over 75lbs each of donations to Creative Critters. To cap off the week, Upstate arranged for a pizza party at the daycare. Kathy Gray of Creative Critters says that they are overwhelmed by the support and generosity shown by Upstate Lacrosse, “Upstate Lacrosse team out of Florida has been amazing…Michael Skonieczki, his wife Sara and the lacrosse teams have been just awesome! Donating tons of supplies, way too much to list. They even hosted a pizza party for our Critters from afar. Thank you from our community to yours! Upstate LAX rocks!”
