Winton Roschach continued his tremendous scoring spree with 7 goals Friday night. Tyler Martin added 7 pts. of his own, 5 goals 2 assists, to lead Vero over Spanish River. Vero started strong scoring 5 goals in the first period with Austin Dupuis contributing from midfield. Jonathan Spevacek and Adrian Franzone each scored for Spanish River in the first.
The second period was full of tremendous action. All ground balls were hotly contested and play was very physical. Spanish River scored 3 goals with Davis Diamond scoring to try and keep pace with Vero. However Vero was able to score 4 and add to the lead. Vero had three great plays during this period. Bennett O’Brien had a full length of the field run bouncing off defenders and taking checks the whole way to within yards off the goal. Showing the maturing of Vero’s team instead of shooting , which might have been the case early in the year, he made a nice pass to Martin for an easy goal.
Vero has worked hard all season on its rides and it payed off. Roschach was able to strip the ball from the pole and pick it up leaving him on a sprint to the goal for a 1 on 1 with the goalie with predictable results. Chris Britton made a great one handed grab behind him on an errant pass swiched hands and scored. In the second half S.R. rallied to within 3 goals in the 3rd period with Franzone scoring again and Colton Stanger added 2 goals but Vero was able to score 9 more with Zach Funk tallying 3 second half scores.
Coach Jon Moriarty has challenged Vero’s boys with a daunting schedule this year. With an eye on the playoffs and giving his underclassmen valuable experience Vero will play many of the states top teams. Including St. Andrews, St. Thomas, Maclay, Jensen, Boca, Barron Collier, Pope John Paul. Up next #1 Jupiter
