Vero Beach Survives South Fork 9-8

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
South Fork played a solid first half controlling the ball well and showing great patience.Wyatt Ripper had 3 first half goals and combined with Vero’s double digit turnovers took a 6-2 lead into the half. Vero’s long sticks however came out more determined after the break and held South Fork to just 2 second half goals. Jake Coleman (Queens University) had 3 takeaways. Derek Stanley and Dylan Carabia picked up 7 ground balls each. Winton Roschach then took control of the offense. Moving the ball better and making smarter decisions Vero chipped away at the lead. Roschach tied the game with very little time left. With 30 seconds on the clock Vero Coach John Moriarity called a time out. He then called the play of the game. Zack Funk started with the ball on the side. South Fork had the middle filled with defenders in front of the goal and Moriarity sent Roschach into the middle of the pack. From the stands he wasn’t even visible. At the whistle Roschach broke out and recieved a perfect pass from Funk to score his 4th goal of the half and final goal of the game with 17 seconds left. V.B.- Roschach 5g, Britton 2g, Pfeifer 1g, O’Brien 1g, Funk 1a South Fork- Ripper 4g, 1 each for Morgan, Grills, Ernst, VanDyke
