Vero Beach Tops St. Edward’s 10-5 in Growing Cross-Town Rivalry

St. Edward’s school had high hopes of ending Vero’s seven year run of victories, with good reason, on Friday night. They had high scoring Ross Pridemore playing well and Vero Beach transfer Austin Strazzulla was now a member of the Pirates.
Vero meanwhile was without 2 of their 3 top returning scorers and had played inconsistent at best this year. But like most good programs Vero has the depth and talent to expect someone to fill the void. Sophmore and first year varsity player Chris Britton has played that role. Britton is Vero’s second leading scorer this year and led all scorers in fridays game with 4 goals. Fellow sophs Bennett O’Brien added 2 goals and Austin Dupuis had 1, making Vero’s future look bright.
By half time trailing 6-1 St. Edwards chances looked dim. St Edwards was able to cut it to a 3 goal difference after the break but Vero pushed back and Vero doubled the pirates up for a 10-5 win. Winton Roschach had another good game with 3 goals. Defensively the long sticks played well and Kevin Heckman played agressive defense at the midfield. St Edwards was led by Strazzulla with 3 goals, Ross Pridemore and Mason Helm each had a goal. Terrell Sands had 7 ground balls.
