Wellington won the first game of a two-day road trip to the Melbourne area by defeating Trinity 11-2 last night.
With attackman Jason D’Aoust (Saint Leo) injured, junior Patrick Oporto stepped it up with 5 goals and 2 assists in the first half of play. Oporto then left the game as Coach Calby rested his key players ahead of tonight’s game. Defensiveman Chad Moye and Bryce Dalton (Brevard) kept the game in hand for Wellington as they won the ground ball war and forced turnovers all night. Logan Masta had 15 saves in goal. Attacker Matt Albers put up 2 goals and 1 assist, Logan Rogers had 1 goal and 2 assists and Ryan Blum got credit for 4 assists.
Wellington plays Thursday night against a rapidly-rising Melbourne Central Catholic (7-1) in what should prove to be an excellent match-up of two programs on the upswing.
Trinity hosts West Orange tonight.
