Who Impressed at the Orlando Lacrosse Fall League Crossover

Above – Ben French returns for another season at IMG and will be a handful for most defenses.
Bishop Moore- Robbie Bennett looks like he’ll be a sophomore to watch this spring. The big lefty attackman scored from all sorts of nasty angles and has a knack for being in position to get the ball.
Monte Verde Academy – Jordan and Justin Williams run the attack on this improving team. Justin quarterbacks the offense from X and has excellent field awareness and can find big brother Jordan open on the wings who can finish well. Jordan is also making a name for himself in the stick stringing business with his company Champion Strings and recently strung one up for none other than Chris Mattes. You can check it out here.
Apopka goalie, Austin DeGross, looked fearless and super athletic. He can really move out of the crease and get the play upfield. Caleb Hippensteel is a big imposing 6′ 4″ F/O middie. Solid at the X he moved the ball well and covers a lot of ground in a hurry.
Lake Mary was without Forehand, who has really looked good this fall. Charlie Riggault on attack and Ben Carbone both looked to be ready to pick up where they left off in the spring. We were also very impressed with junior attackman Taylor Ayers and on defense, Nick Platt could be the next big star at Lake Mary.
Wellington picked up a pair of transfers, Bryan Meehan from Philadelphia and Brenden Fonts from Palm Beach Central. These guys should give Wellington more depth at attack.
Lax4Autism made a big splash at the event with their cool uni’s and great cause. Founder and head coach Ron Miller was happy with the response. “We have really seen excellent response, not only from our kids and parents, but from tournament directors and other teams that we have played. Even on a national level we’ve got a college game they are going to do for Lax4Autism. We have built a relationship with a team from New York that has all autistic players so we’re really starting to build something that does more for guys as human beings as opposed to lacrosse players.
Lax4Autism has players from Palmetto Ridge, Gulf Coast, Barron Collier, and Estero. Each tournament they play they use the opportunity to raise money for some family who can use some support. This weekends lucky recipient was Alex Karmazinski of Howard County Maryland who wanted to buy a sign for his Special Olympics flag football team’s home field.
Lax4Autism had a couple of guys who were getting it done on the field as well as off the field. Chase Hewins, a senior at Palmetto Ridge High School. Chase is one of those “do it all” guys who can play either attack or midfield and is capable of doing plenty of the heavy lifting for a team that may be a little short on depth. In the goal, Eric Olguin saw a lot of rubber and made some great saves.
Ponte Vedra has a pair of excellent goalies who should be doing some battle for the starting job this fall. Junior Robert Martin who impressed us last season and sophomore Wyatt Schupler give the Sharks some real depth between the pipes. No surprise to us was the fact that Reid Smith is going to be a big time player this year. Also impressive was Andrew Bray sophomore LSM and newcomer Jack Burke. Burke played middie on the offensive end of the field and should fit in well at either attack or middie. Solid with the ball and good speed. Matt Kieler moved to the midfield and looks like a natural fit at that position.
IMG’s standout attackman Ben French looked to be in great form. A good looking pair of middies in Badour (Duke) and Robert Hudson (Vermont) look like they fit right into the IMG offensive system. On defense we were impressed with Harvard commit Christoff Cote from Quebec. Some really big news was the appearance on the IMG sideline of five-time Team Iroquois captain Mark Burnam. With deep experience in both the indoor and field game, Burnam is a perfect match for IMG’s hybrid style of play.
