thanks to Travis Larner, Athletic Communications Assistant – Florida Southern College for this press release   LAKELAND – No. 6 Florida Southern closed a 10-game season-opening homestand with a 15-7 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday night while attacker Caitlin Chase continued to write her legacy in the program’s record book. Chase, one of four seniors who are part of the first graduating class of women’s lacrosse players, tallied her 300th career point with an assist on the game’s first goal. Florida Southern’s all-time leading point-getter has scored 124 goals with 178 assists for 302 career points with half of the 2015 season remaining. She has started all 59 games in the team’s three-and-a-half year history. After finishing third in Division II in assists (68) and (111) points in 2014, Chase entered Tuesday’s game leading the nation in assists while ranking sixth in points. She leads all active Division II players in career assists and is second in career points and points per game (5.16). Midway through her senior campaign, Chase has 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points, second-most on the team. “I am so proud of Cait and all of her accomplishments as a starter for our program from its inception,” said head coach Kara Reber. “She has been a great leader and certainly knows how to get the job done on the offensive end. She is obviously one of the main reasons our team has been so successful from year one.” The Mt. Laurel, N.J., native scored her 300th career point with one of her patented assists to senior Lorianne Hoover from behind the cage for the opening goal of the game at the 24:29 mark in the first half. In the second half, she rolled from behind the crease and found the back of the net for her only goal of the game. She finished the night with four points. Chase wasn’t the only Moc to record a milestone. Hoover’s game-high five points allowed the midfielder from Annapolis, Md., to earn her 200th career point. She joins Chase and fellow senior Megan Asper (Parkton, Md.) as the only three players in the team history to reach 200 points in their FSC careers. On the defensive end, redshirt freshman Ashley Seborowski (Annapolis, Md.) equaled two-time Division II Goalkeeper of the Year Katie Hammerer’s record for the best start by a Moccasin goalie by improving to 7-0. Seborowski and the defense held the Bears (3-4, 3-0 SAC) to a single goal off of only five shots in the first half as the Mocs jumped out to an 8-1 lead at the break. Lenoir-Rhyne turned the ball over 18 times in the first half, 10 caused by the Mocs. Junior Grace Donovan (Boise, Idaho) scored her first two goals of the season in the opening half. The Mocs scored three times inside the final two minutes of the first half, two of those coming from freshman Meghan O’Brien (Rochester, N.Y.) as FSC closed the half with five unanswered goals. The Bears more than tripled their shot total in the second half as they attempted to claw their way back. They scored six times on 17 shots, but Seborowski made seven saves in the half to bring her total to 10. Senior Lauren Donovan, Lenoir-Rhyne’s all-time leading scorer, recorded a team-high three points with two goals and one assist for the Bears. Freshman goalkeeper Ines Flueck made eight saves in the losing effort. With the win, the Mocs improved to 9-1 (0-0 SSC) on the season while tying the team record for consecutive wins with their eighth straight. The Mocs will hit the road for three straight games this weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. matchup against No. 3 Lindenwood (Mo.) on Friday, March 20. On Saturday, March 21, FSC plays a doubleheader against McKendree and Adams State.   Travis Larner Athletic Communications Assistant Florida Southern College 111 Lake Hollingsworth Dr. Lakeland, FL 33801 E: tlarner@flsouthern.edu P: 863-680-4256
