Bracketology Friday! Girls Region 4 – 1A!

First, let me explain how I came to these conclusions since there are some assumptions we had to make, given how little the FHSAA gave out:

I started with the 4/5/22 FHSAA rankings, and since no one in Gainesville would confirm or deny that the games of 4/4 were included, I will go with what Tampa Lax Report said and make 4/5 the starting point for including results.

According to some of what was probable, the District playoff games carried a little more weight than a regular season game. The issue of a head to head win was never confirmed, so I will count the head to head in the playoff as more important.

Won-Loss record certainly seemed to be more important than first thought and strength of schedule less important, so I carried that thinking over too.

There are a few games left today due to weather and a brush fire, so they are inclusive of both schools when projecting positions/slots.

We are going to do one of these articles for each region – 16 in total.

I have no reason to think geography will be part of the selection process, like it is in the NCAA at times. If a District rematch is indicated in the first round, I am assuming it will be played. There is no indication that the FHSAA will avoid first round rematches at this time.

Margin of victory does not seem important, and a forfeit is not counted (this is problematic if won-loss is so important).

Okay, if I think of something else, I’ll add it!

Region 4 – Girls 1A

A very deep region but with a nationally ranked team at the top makes this a most unusual region. Teams that are out are likely Top 4 seeds in many regions.

American Heritage-Delray is locked into the #1 seed, as they have all year. Pine Crest and Benjamin swapped spots last ranking period and they both won their districts and there’s no reason to think they both won’t keep their current #2 and #3 seeds. Key West won their district comfortably and hold the #4 seed.

And then it’s Pepto Bismal time if you are a coach for the rest of the invitations . . .

South Fork – #7 – 1-1 record after 4/4, lost final to Benjamin

Calvary Christian – #10 – 2-1 record, lost semifinal

King’s Academy – #11 – 3-1 and lost final

Jensen Beach – #12 – 1-2, lost semifinal

AH-Plantation – #13 – 3-1, lost final

Saint Andrew’s – #14 – 2-1. lost semifinal

Analysis:

Ho boy . . . woah Nellie . . . pick your favorite slogan . . .

Right now, South Fork and King’s look to have the inside track on the 5/6 slots and it will be close. King’s 3-1 finish vs South Fork’s 1-1, with both losing finals. 4 slots separate them and maybe that is slightly too much for King’s to overcome.

Saint Andrew’s lost their semifinal and that likely knocked them out. Of the remaining three, only AH-Plantation made their final and I think that gets them to #7, so we come down to Calvary and Jensen Beach and the difference between 1-2 and 2-1 should give Calvary the 8th seed.

If there were a closer region, it isn’t apparent.

So, this is how it looks:

#1 AH-Delray vs #8 Calvary Christian

#2 Pine Crest vs #7 AH-Plantation

#3 Benjamin vs #6 King’s Academy

#4 Key West vs #5 South Fork
