GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Embry-Riddle men’s lacrosse team put together a late rally against Limestone but the Eagles were unable overcome a first-half deficit, falling 16-10 to the sixth-ranked Saints on Saturday.

Limestone jumped out to a 7-1 first-quarter lead and held off fourth-quarter rally by the Eagles to pick up their first win of the season. Embry-Riddle’s record stands even at 1-1.

Coleman Jacobs and Isaiah Hines finished with four goals apiece to pace the Eagle offense. In goal, Carter Groezinger recorded a season-high seven saves and picked up two ground balls in his second start for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles forced 11 Saints turnovers in the first quarter, but the home team won 12 of 13 faceoffs in the first 30 minutes of play and used a 28-13 shot advantage to lead 10-2 at the end of the first half.

A low-scoring third saw both teams combine for just three goals. Limestone accounted for two of those scores and led 12-3 heading into the final period.

Zachary Terry opened the scoring in the fourth with a goal at the 13:35 mark. But then the offense came alive for the Eagles. After Hines registered his first man-up goal of the season, Jacobs went off, scoring three times in 90 seconds to pull the Eagles within six (13-7).

After Terry halted the Eagle run with two goals, the Eagles outscored the Saints 3-1 in the final 5:03 of the game resulting in the 16-10 final score.

Terry finished with nine points on eight goals and an assist, while Cory Lyons had 12 saves for Limestone.

The Eagles’ next game will be the first home game of their 2023 season. Embry-Riddle hosts Anderson at 11 a.m. on Feb. 12.
