Seahawk men’s lacrosse began their season with a win tonight against NCAA Division II foe Palm Beach Atlantic. Keiser played a tough defensive game and was helped along the way by four goals from Vincent Cerasuolo.
Keiser 5, PBA 2
Keiser struck first, with Josten Ucros providing the first KU goal of the season.
The Sailfish answered just a minute later, tying the game at 1-1.
KU countered after the ensuing faceoff, when AJ Badik scored his first career goal.
Palm Beach Atlantic would retie the game two minutes later.
The Seahawks ended the quarter with a flurry of goals, first with another Vincent Cerasuolo goal, and then Jack Gillen scored on a nifty play with an assist from Cole Stassi.
Freshman Braeden Niemy scored his first career goal with 12 seconds to go in the quarter.
Keiser 7, PBA 3
Palm Beach Atlantic scored a goal with 14:18 still on the clock.
AJ Badik scored his second career goal with 7:57 left.
Cole Stassi scored an unassisted goal with 6:32 left in the half. Stassi’s goal gave Keiser a five goal lead heading into the locker room.
Keiser 10, PBA 7
The second half of the game started slower than the first, with both squads locking up defensively, and neither side able to gain an advantage.
Keiser was able to break the scoring drought with Jack Gillen’s second goal of the day.
Just a minute later, Braeden Niemy scored his second goal of the day to put KU up 9-3.
PBA began to chip away at Keiser’s lead, and scored three goals in four minutes.
Keiser went up 10-6 when Trevor Hall scored his first goal of the year.
The Sailfish cut the KU lead down to three with a goal with 0:34 remaining in the quarter.
Keiser 13, PBA 11
The fourth quarter began similarly to the third, with no goals scored in the first five minutes.
PBA got within two when Neil Calkin scored the third of his four goals with 10:27 left in the game.
