Cougars control the game dispatching Riverview, 17-7

SARASOTA The Cardinal Mooney boys lacrosse team earned the first possession of the game Thursday night and passed the ball around the zone, almost lulling Riverview High to sleep. “We’ve been pushing the ball too fast lately,” Cougars senior Caleb Ward said. “We’ve had too many turnovers. We wanted to work it around and get as many touches as we could and then get a good shot off.” Ward took the first Cardinal Mooney shot, sticking it in the back of the net with 72 seconds elapsed to begin an onslaught. The Cougars went on two big runs en route to a 17-7 victory over the Rams in the Class 1A-District 17 final at Out-of-Door Academy’s Thunder Stadium.
