ATS – TCPalm.Com: St. Ed’s Boys, Vero Beach Girls Win Lacrosse District Titles
TROPICAL FARMS — The St. Edward’s boys lacrosse team used a terrific third quarter to win its second consecutive District 23 championship on Thursday in the second game of a district doubleheader.
The Vero Beach girls won the first game of the night, beating Martin County 19-4 to win the District 22 title for the 14th year in a row. The Indians have never lost a district game.
St. Edward’s also beat Martin County to win its title, rallying from a one-goal deficit at the half to win 10-5.
“We adjusted our offense just a little bit and got people cutting through the middle,” said sophomore Ryan Bird, who scored three goals. “That helped a lot. And we just connected on shots.”
St. Edward’s scored the first two goals, and then Martin County’s Donovan Deignan got the next three to give the Tigers (10-8) the lead. St. Edward’s Luke Jayne tied it at 3-3, but Cole Proctor’s goal from Joey Senior gave Martin County a 4-3 lead at the half. Proctor scored Martin County’s only second-half goal as well.
