Ave Maria: #4 Indiana Tech Too Much For Lady Gyrenes

  via Ave Maria press release   AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria women’s lacrosse team began a busy three-game week this afternoon, a 20-9 loss to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech. AMU hosts #6 Georgetown on Wednesday and then #3 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday to conclude the week. Indiana Tech took a 9-3 lead in the first half. The Warriors scored the games first goals at the two and three minute marks. A pair of quick goals by Alexis Smich and Katelyn Sherman tied the game at two a few minutes later. After two Indiana Tech goals, Aiyanah Simms scored to make it a one-run deficit for AMU, 4-3. The Warriors scored the games next six goals, five to close the half, to take a 10-3 lead. A three-goal spurt by Ave Maria closed the gap to four, 10-6. The AMU goals were by Smich, Simms, and Isabella Pinsonault. Indiana Tech scored six of the next seven goals to take a 16-7 lead. The goal for AMU was by Sherman. Trailing 16-7, Simms an Sherman each added another goal to bring AMU to within seven. Tech closed the game with four straight goals. Indiana Tech held a 43-20 edge in shots and a 35-13 lead in shots on goal. The Warriors held a slight edge in ground balls, 21-20, and a 18-13 advantage in draw controls. Sherman and Simms led AMU with three goals apiece. Smich tallied two goals and a team-best six caused turnovers. Georgia Miller led AMU in draw controls with nine. Andie Wagner made 15 saves in net for the Lady Gyrenes.
