Ave Maria: Lady Gyrenes Fall To #2 Cumberlands

  via Ave Maria press release   BOX SCORE   AVE MARIA, Fla. — Trailing by two at the half, Ave Maria was shut out in the second half, eventually falling to the second-ranked Cumberlands Patriots 21-8. AMU drops to 1-7 on the season. Cumberlands jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening half before an Aiyanah Simms goal made it 3-1. Less then 30 seconds later, Katelyn Sherman scored a man-up goal to cut the deficit to one. After a UC goal, Sherman scored two more goals to level the game at four. At the 10:25 mark, Stephanie Hilker scored to tie the game at five. A two goal spurt by the Patriots was ended by Alexis Smich with 7:43 to play in the half. Cumberlands scored three of the final five goals in the first half to take a 10-8 edge into halftime. The two AMU goals were by Georgia Miller and Anneliese Sawick. Cumberlands outscored AMU 11-0 in the second half to pull away from the Lady Gyrenes. The Patriots held a 34-20 advantage in shots on goal and a 21-10 edge in draw controls. Sherman led six AMU goal scorers with three goals. Andie Wagner made 13 saves in the loss.
