Sometimes you win ugly and this was one of those games.
At 9:30 in the opening quarter, Logan Short (#3) pushes up from behind the goal and finds Chiles midfielder, Sean Congdon (#6), for the first goal of the game. At 5:42, Short (#3) finds Josh Sirdevan (#12) at the top of the crease for his first goal of the game. At the close of the first quarter and man-up, Matt Congdon (#2) finds Sirdevan (#12) for his second goal. Chiles takes a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.
Leon scores first in the second quarter, cutting the Chiles lead 3-1. Leon’s Chandler Pridgeon (#12) follows up at 9:58. Chiles ahead 3-2. At 9:35, Short (#3) teams up with Luke Mizell (#24), who blasts it from the top of the box for a Chiles score. At 7:40, Portland Janus (#16) passes to Quentin Parker (#18) for a Leon goal. Chiles’ lead shrinks to one (4-3). At 1:09 left in the half, Max Kramer (#19) scores to tie the game at 4.
At 9:38 in the third quarter, Sirdevan (#12) finds Trent Fewox (#21) for a goal. Chiles retakes the lead 5-4. Fewox follows up with another goal at 7:08, increasing Chiles’ lead by two (6-4). Quentin Parkker (#18) scores his second goal of the game to pull Leon within a goal at 5:42 (6-5).
Leon ties the game in fourth quarter. A battle ensues between these two teams. At 1:57 left in the game, midfielder Josh Sirdevan (#12) scores his third goal of the game to put Chiles ahead 7-6. Assist by Fewox (#21). On a Chiles clear, Ty Davidson (#20) passes to Matt Congdon (#2) waiting in the left wing. As Congdon catches the ball, he turns, takes a few steps towards the goal and shoots with a Leon defender hanging on his back. As he falls forward the ball zips past Leon’s goalie for a score. Pandemonium ensues! The goal seals Chiles’ victory.
Chiles will play Maclay on Thursday at Chiles High School for the District 2 Championship. These two teams split their regular season games. Should be a great game.
