MLL Player Movement Opens For 2018 Season

  via MLL press release
Author’s Note:  This list is preliminary in that it indicates who is eligible to file, not who already has.  That won’t be known until September 22nd.  There are 4 Launch players on the list . . . Tucker Durkin, Steven Brooks, Chazz Woodson and Adam Fullerton.  Durkin would obviously be a big target should he decide to file and the rest do not hold the same impact.  A signing of Durkin by another team would require that team’s first round pick coming back to the Launch as compensation.  Brooks would return a 3rd round pick, Woodson a 5th and Fullerton would be a free transfer.  When you look around the league only 6 players are deemed 1st round compensation, which is a marked difference from last year when it was viewed by many that the compensation was too high for a lot of movement to occur. Those 6 are Durkin, Rochester’s Joel White, Rochester’s John Galloway, Greg Gurenlian of NY, who already announced his retirement, Eric Law of Denver and Will Manny of New York.  Manny is headed to Utah to be an assistant coach of the new college program and Law is not likely to leave a Denver situation he finds comfortable.  There are definitely some interesting mid-round compensation players that the Launch might find to be a good fit so let’s see how this plays out.  Florida lost Jeff Reynolds to player movement last year.
Players have until Sept. 22 to declare intent BOSTON (August 28, 2017) –Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor professional lacrosse league, announced the window for those eligible to file for Player Movement opens today. Players have until Friday, Sept. 22 to file with the league. This year’s eligible players include the Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year in Eric Law (Denver) and Tucker Durkin (Florida) and three-time MLL All-Star Will Manny (New York). Each of those players would cost the potential new team a first-round Collegiate Draft pick. Players with at least five straight seasons in MLL and an expiring contract may declare their intent to seek opportunities with other MLL teams. If that player agrees on a contract with a new team, his former team may receive compensation in the form of a Collegiate Draft pick. The Player Movement Policy was instituted for the first time after the 2016 season and 16 players filed their intent. The inaugural class saw Joe Walters move from the Bayhawks to the Lizards, earning Chesapeake a first-round selection in the Collegiate Draft, and Brent Adams went to Denver from Boston in exchange for a third-round Collegiate Draft pick.
