Author’s Note:  For those who don’t know this is a terrific award for a college student to earn.  As a Hobart grad I’ve always looked forward each year to see if an HWS student made the list so to see a local lacrosse player earn her way onto this just shows that this sport continues to attract fine young men and women.  My personal congratulations to you Chanel on this award.   via PBA press release   WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Former Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team captain Chanel Nassir was one of three recent PBA grads awarded a highly-competitive Fulbright award to teach English overseas. A Fulbright is a highly-selective, prestigious award for international study that aims to foster understanding between U.S. citizens and those of other countries. During their term, recipients live, work, learn and serve with people from their host country. Nassir hails from Lancaster, Pa., and graduated from PBA with a degree in international business in 2020. She is in the first class of Fulbright U.S. Student Program award winners to teach English in Burma. Under the English Teaching Assistant Program, she will begin serving in Burma in January 2021. Nassir will be teaching at the university level. A key piece of the growth of the Sailfish women’s lacrosse program, Nassir credits her years at PBA as integral to her development as both a Fulbright recipient and as an individual with the ability to impact the world. “I could not feel more confident as I prepare for the Fulbright,” she said, “and I genuinely attribute that to the university’s leadership and faculty. PBA has consistently called out and championed my God-given abilities.” In her athletic career, Nassir has played all 37 games the women’s lacrosse program has played since it was played its first season of competition in 2018. The Conestoga Valley HS product started in 35 of those 37 games as a prominent member of the Sailfish defense. She totaled 41 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and 11 goals in three seasons for the ‘Fish. Nassir is no stranger to international service, having interned with the Rafiki Africa Foundation and having taught at Light House Academy in Kosele, Kenya, where she initiated the community’s first-ever computer classes. She also studied abroad at the University of Oxford, and through all these endeavors, maintained a near-perfect GPA.
