WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After a solid start the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team faded late in the first half and were never able to recover against Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday, falling 27-11 to the Mountain Lions.

UC-Colorado Springs scored the first two goals of the game before the ‘Fish answered with two of their own to tie the game. Dom Barber got PBA on the board first and was followed by Julia del Carmen. A pair of 4-0 runs by the Mountain Lions were too much midway through the half.

Barber added another goal with 19:45 left in the first and was followed by Grace Barlinski’s first. That cut the deficit to 6-4 but another 4-0 run by UCCS kept the ‘Fish at arm’s length. Bartlinski added two more with a goal from Alyssa Yates added in that made it 10-7. From there the Mountain Lions turned it on, scoring seven of the final nine goals of the half to take a 17-9 lead into the break.

In the second half the Sailfish managed just seven shots and scored just twice as Del Carmen got her second of the game and Morgan LeBlanc scored her only goal.

The Mountain Lions controlled the draw controls with 24 wins compared to just 15 for the Sailfish. UCCS also took advantage on free position shots, netting seven goals on seven attempts. PBA scored two of their eight chances.

The Sailfish are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 24 as they host Shorter at 5 p.m.
