2018 ALL-SSC Women’s Lacrosse Awards

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Twenty-nine women’s lacrosse student-athletes are recognized as All-SSC in the fourth year of Sunshine State Conference women’s lacrosse. Lauren Tybor of Florida Tech is awarded Player of the Year honors. Bridget Sutter of the University of Tampa earns Freshman of the Year accolades, while UT’s Kelly Gallagher was selected Coach of the Year.Voting for the All-SSC Women’s Lacrosse Team was conducted among the league’s head coaches.All-SSC History: SSC Players and Coaches of the Year | All-SSC TeamsTybor played in 16 games at midfield for Florida Tech in 2018, tallying 74 points from 45 goals and 29 assists with a .584 shooting percentage. The Jacksonville, Florida product also provided the Panthers with 106 draw controls, 42 ground balls, and 33 caused turnovers. The sophomore ranks second in conference draw controls per game (6.63) and caused turnovers per game (2.06). She is also Top-5 in SSC points per game (4.63) and assists per game (1.81). Tybor is the first SSC women’s lacrosse athlete to earn Freshman of the Year1 and Player of the Year honors. She is also the second Panther to be named Player of the Year2.Sutter started all 17 games in goal for Tampa, accumulating over 880 minutes between the pipes this season. The Evergreen, Colorado native recorded 141 saves and allowed 137 goals for .507 save percentage in 2018. Her 9.33 goals against average helped the Spartans secure a 12-5 record, and is the lowest GAA in program history. Among conference goalkeepers, she ranks first in saves per game (8.29) and second in save percentage. Sutter is the first Tampa women’s lacrosse athlete to win an individual award.Gallagher has been awarded Coach of the Year by her peers. In her fifth year leading Tampa’s program, Gallagher led her team to new heights. For the first time in school history, the Spartans posted winning records for an overall season (12-5) and in conference play (4-2). The 2018 Spartans squad also earned its first IWLCA national ranking3 and received its highest seed in the conference tournament to date4.Florida Tech’s Sara Grenier becomes the first SSC women’s lacrosse student-athlete to earn First-Team accolades in four consecutive years. Kallie German (Rollins College), Meghan O’Brien (Florida Southern College), and Lindsay Van Beck (Rollins) are awarded ALL-SSC First-Team honors for a third straight  year. All-SSC Men’s Lacrosse Selections for 2018

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Forty-six student-athletes have been recognized as All-Conference in the fifth year of Sunshine State Conference men’s lacrosse. Saint Leo University, regular season champions, boast 11 All-SSC awards including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.Voting for the All-SSC Men’s Lacrosse Team was conducted among the league’s head coaches.All-SSC History: SSC Players and Coaches of the Year | All-SSC TeamsSaint Leo’s Jake Gilmour has been voted SSC Player of the Year for 2018. In 14 games for the Lions, Gilmour tallied 63 points from 29 goals and 34 assists with a .468 shooting percentage. The senior from Pickering, Ontario is the SSC leader in points per game (4.50) and assists per game (2.43). Gilmour becomes the first Saint Leo athlete to earn an individual award in men’s lacrosse.B.J. Borowski from the University of Tampa is awarded Freshman of the Year honors after starting in 16 games for the Spartans. The Frederick County, Maryland native, recorded 135 saves and allowed 110 goals for .551 save percentage in 2018. His 8.12 goals against average helped the Spartans secure a 13-4 record, and stands as one of the lowest goals against average in program history. Among conference goalkeepers that made over 30 saves in 2018, he ranks second in goals against average and second in save percentage. Borowski is the second Spartan to be named Freshman of the Year1.SSC coaches selected Brad Jorgensen as the 2018 SSC Coach of the Year. The 14-year head coach of Saint Leo earns the honor after going undefeated (7-0) in SSC play and posting a.929 winning percentage in the regular season (13-1). Under Jorgensen’s leadership, the Lions have risen to the fifth-ranked team in the USILA poll, won their first SSC regular-season title, and will host the conference postseason tournament. The honor is the first of his Jorgensen’s career.Gilmour earns All-SSC recognition for the third consecutive year, he moves back up to the First Team after receiving Second Team accolades in 2017. Along with Gilmour, Tampa’s Andrew Kew also boasts three straight years of All-SSC honors. Joining Kew as a repeat First Team selection from 2017 are: Logan Sweeney (Florida Tech), Addison Abramson (Florida Tech), Dryden Brous (Lynn University), and Jake Bye (Saint Leo).
