Stetson Hatters Fall to Catamounts 17-11

  via Stetson press release – photo by Steve Simoneau   Four different players scored three times for Vermont as the Catamounts handed Stetson a 17-10 setback, Wednesday at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand. Jenna Janes, Alex Bernier, MacKenzie Bolt and Bailey Saneman each scored three goals to lead Vermont (3-5).Maddie Holvey and Marina Rotella scored twice for Stetson (1-6). Vermont controlled play from start to finish, jumping out to a 4-1 lead and never looking back.   Holvey scored the first of her two goals with 11:19 left in the first half to pull the Hatters (1-6) within 4-2, but Vermont scored the next three goals for a 7-2 advantage. The final 2:38 of the first half saw each team score twice, including a goal for Vermont’s Ali Korin just before the buzzer as the Catamounts took an 11-6 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same as Vermont scored three times before Stetson’s Shelby Lehmann found the back of the net with 17:31 to play. But her goal only brought the Hatters to within 14-7. Back-to-back goals by Rotella put the Hatters within 15-9 but it wasn’t enough. Stetson keepers Liza Diamond and Kiera McCarthy combined to make five saves in 28 shots. The Hatters next host George Mason, Noon, Sunday.
