UF: Four Gators Earn Bids to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

  via UF press release   GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four members of the University of Florida lacrosse team were named to the 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday night. Senior Shayna Pirreca, and juniors Haley Hicklen and Lindsey Ronbeck earned their second appearance on the Watch List, while junior Sydney Pirreca became Florida’s 14th Tewaararon Award Nominee. Overall, the Gators have had 14 players earn 24 Tewaaraton Award nominations in the nine-year history of Florida lacrosse, with four finalists. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Complete Tewaaraton Release (PDF) Florida Nominees: Senior attacker  – Pirreca has appeared in 63 games during her career as a Gator, and currently ranks ninth in school history with 105 goals and 144 points. A two-time All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, Pirreca has also collected 44 ground balls, won 12 draw controls, and caused 12 turnovers while at Florida. Earlier this season, the left-handed senior scored the game-winning goal to propel Florida past No. 23 Loyola in overtime. The Mount Sinai, New York, native has scored a goal in 24 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in program history. Junior goalkeeper  – Hicklen enjoyed a breakout campaign during her first year starting in goal in 2017, racking up 142 saves, just four shy of the Florida single-season record. The reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the year already ranks third in UF history with 253 saves, while her .504 career save percentage is the best by a Gator goalkeeper all time. Hicklen has logged 1,779:09 minutes in the cage across 42 games in her career, earning 21 victories against five losses. Junior midfielder  – The younger Pirreca sister made a splash against then-No. 1 Maryland earlier this season, obtaining career highs in goals (6), points (8), and draw controls (7) while sparking a 5-0 run to trim the Terrapin lead to just two goals. In 44 games during her career, Pirreca has compiled 72 goals, 24 assists, 65 draw controls, 55 ground balls, and 16 caused turnovers. The junior’s 65 draw controls currently rank ninth all-time at Florida. Junior attacker  – The 2018 BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Ronbeck owns career totals of 101 goals and 40 assists, becoming just the 10th Gator to score at least 100 career goals on Wednesday night against Jacksonville. Ronbeck’s career average of 3.20 points per game is the fourth-highest mark in program history. The Manhasset, New York, native also owns career totals of 52 ground balls, 38 draw controls, and 11 caused turnovers in 44 games played. FLORIDA TEWAARATON AWARD HISTORY
