HOW IT HAPPENED

Jacksonville came out ready to dominate from the first whistle. Fifth-year Sarah Elms scored four first-half goals to lead JU past Coastal. The Dolphins utilized this momentum to their advantage, scoring three more goals with shots from fifth-year Lauren Craft and seniors Lauren Ellis and Hudson Gentile. Jacksonville ended the first quarter 8-0.

The Coastal defense came out strong in the second quarter forcing the Dolphins to move the ball around the outside. Ellis had her second goal of the day with a cut to the center of the 8 meters, where she ripped the first successful shot of the quarter with 6:48 on the clock. In a man-up play fifth-year, Molly Brock scored her first goal of the game with a short-handed shot off the 8 meters. Jacksonville’s defense held Coastal outside of the 8 meter, only allowing Chanticleers to have six shots on net to Jacksonville’s 23 shots. Senior goalie Addy Tysdal had a phenomenal first half shutting out Coastal 10-0.

Elms earned back-to-back goals, giving her 51 on the season, to advance Jacksonville’s lead in the second half. Coastal scored the following three goals, and their first registered points of the game the score showed 12-3. The Chanticleers scored four of the following goals; Craft scored the final goal for the Dolphins to end the game with a six-goal lead.

“Today’s win was really something we needed for this team,” said Tysdal. “We really needed to make a statement in this conference to show everyone that we are the team to beat.”

“We are going to take this win, there are some things to work on ahead of Queens, but it is nothing we can’t handle,” said Elms.
