BOX SCORE

NAPLES, FLA.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team won their third straight game to begin the 2024 season against Farmingdale State College on Saturday by a score of 8-7. The Sailfish (3-0) continue their best start in program history.

The Sailfish were the first to get on the board within 25 seconds of the game starting. Cooper Porter was the one to thank for the goal, but the Rams would respond shortly after to tie the game at 1-1. Though Farmingdale State was able to win the face off after tying the score, Bryce Downs was able to put the ‘Fish back on top 2-1. The Sailfish struggled to take care of the ball after having a few turnovers that would eventually lead to the Rams tying the score at 2-2. Farmingdale State would then try to get on top with another shot, but a save by the starting goalie, Brendan Pedisich, stopped them from doing just that. Keegan Southard was able to capture the final score of the period shortly after the Pedisich save to give the Sailfish a 3-2 lead.

It was another back-and-forth battle in the second period, but the first to score this time was the Rams to tie the game for the second time. After the clear attempt by PBA, Christian Bond found Caleb Southard for the score to put them up once again. Farmingdale State was able to tie it up shortly after that play, but Southard would respond back with his second goal of the game after his brotherm Keegan Southard, found him for the assist. The score going into halftime was 5-4 in the Sailfish’s favor.

Farmingdale State responded with a 2-0 run and did not allow the Sailfish to score the entire period, which gave them a 6-5 lead heading into the final period. In the beginning of the fourth, the Rams would score a quick goal to take the biggest lead for either side in the game at 7-5. The Sailfish knew they had to respond quickly and they did when Brad Wharton found Porter for his second goal of the afternoon to cut the lead to one. With less than five minutes remaining, Henry Sloyan would get on the scoreboard and tie the game at 7-7. Following the next play, Ty Wright would win the faceoff, which allowed Hunter Hopman to find Keegan Southard for PBA’s eighth goal of the game, which put them up one. The Rams had two opportunities to score in the final minute, but Pedisich had two clutch saves to seal the victory for the Sailfish.

The Southard brothers, along with Porter led the Sailfish in goals with two each. Keegan Southard also had an assist to go along with the two goals. The junior Christian Bond scooped up four of the team’s 19 ground balls. Pedisich played the entire game in goal and recorded 17 saves, which is his best this season.

The Sailfish will play their first home game of the year against Concordia University Irvine on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m.
