Region 3 Boys 1A District Brackets

A very solid region for Boys 1A, as they are looking to grab the area’s first Boys state title. The Region has a few non-competitive districts and a few barn burners.

Jesuit has been the top seed most of the year (Community slipped by them for one week, but fell back to #2 here), but hardly has a cakewalk to the Final Four.

Community School and Cardinal Mooney are definitely threats, as CM lost a 2-goal game to Jesuit, with Community holding a 4-goal win over CM. District 12’s playoffs are among the best in the state.

District 9

District 9 hosts the Region’s #1 seed in Jesuit, but no at-large contender. For an 8-team District, that’s kind of unusual. A quirk in MaxPreps is that the Jesuit win over Berkeley Prep, the #2 seed, does not show as a district game in the standings. No matter what, Jesuit is coming out of this District, and no one else.

District 10

District 10 is not a particularly strong district this year, with Calvary Christian Clearwater leading the District as a #5 seed and a #15 statewide ranking (with a 14-1 record!), with Osceola (9-4) barely holding on to the 8-seed over Barron Collier and Estero. Northeast is the Fourth Team Out and would need a lot of help to get into the bracket.

The likely final between the two top seeds is interesting since it was only a 1-goal win for CC over Osceola, a margin that easily can be reversed. CC should still hold on to an at-large if that were to happen, but CC is clearly a beneficiary of how FHSAA doesn’t value Strength of Schedule as much as it probably should. If CC wins, the likelihood of Osceola still holding the #8 slot is there because Barron Collier and Estero have plenty of tough teams in D12 to contend with.

District 11

In District 11, the Cougars of Cardinal Mooney played a heck of a schedule this year and it has earned them the #3 seed currently, with a surprising St. Stephen’s that is at #6. ODA is Third Team Out and well down the rankings at 42, which is 12 slots behind Osceola. CM and St Stephen’s did not play this year and the difference in SOS is enormous, with SSE finishing with a negative number. Likely a two-bid district either way.

District 12

On the other hand, District 12 is loaded. Three seeds and the First Two Out, with both of them a possibility to advance except for one small barrier; they play each other in the first round of District, as the 4/5 matchup, and that means one of them is likely eliminated from at-large consideration given that this could very well be a FOUR-team bid.

Seeding in the Region will be influenced greatly by both the 4/5 game and the likely 2/3 game between Bishop Verot and Canterbury. Community would likely vote for 7 OT’s in that one. Community’s program continues to rise and they already hold solid wins over both BV and Canterbury, so they should come through and might even have enough to wrest the #1 seed away from Jesuit, since those two are #6 and #8 statewide in the rankings. Plenty to play for here.
