ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College women’s lacrosse team welcomes back a familiar face in Shelby Harrison as the assistant women’s lacrosse coach.
Harrison returns to Flagler after serving as the assistant coach at NCAA Division I member Towson University. The Tigers finished the season 7-9 overall and 4-4 in conference. Harrison assisted in the coaching of four All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) recipients, one of which was named to the first team.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Shelby Harrison back with us at Flagler,” said head coach Grant Kelam. “Her time at Towson has really elevated her game and brought a level of experience that’s rare to find. She’s not just coming back as a former coach; she’s returning with a wealth of knowledge and competitive edge that will significantly benefit our team. Having seen firsthand how she developed over the last two years, I know she’ll bring a new level of intensity and leadership that will inspire everyone on the field. We are excited for her experience builds success for us this season.”
Harrison started her coaching career as a Saint in 2023 after finishing her collegiate career at Johns Hopkins University. That year, the Saints won the Gulf South Conference regular season and tournament championship as well as earning a NCAA Tournament appearance. The team finished with an overall record of 17-2 and went undefeated in conference play.
As a Blue Jay, Harrison was a five-year starter, serving as the 2022 team captain. In 2021 she earned Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse honorable mention All-American honors as well as being a three-time All-Big Ten Conference selection. During the IWLCA Division I Senior All-Star Game, Harrison was named the most valuable player.
“Flagler and the city of St. Augustine holds a special place in my heart so I could not be more excited to be back! I received a very warm welcome back from the team, Grant, Chris and the Flagler athletic department which made me feel right at home. I can’t wait to get back out there with the girls and help build on everything the team has accomplished,” said Harrison.
